Michigan Unemployment Applications

Have you been laid off from work? Does it seem like you're drowning in endless unpaid bills and growing expenses? If you're still jobless and are looking for ways to handle your household reponsibilities, you can always file for Michigan unemployment applications. This will temporarily help you financially, while you're looking for a new job.

If you're interested to claim unemployment benefits, you should know that there are certain conditions you need to meet. In order to qualify, you have to be, of course, a resident of the state of Michigan; have been laid off without fault; and are employed during the past 18 months. You are not eligible to receive this benefit if you had been working for the military, for the government and for your family business. You are also not fit to receive this special insurance if you filed for benefits in another state.

As of now, there are different ways in order to apply for unemployment benefits.

  1. Apply personally

  2. Apply online - Just find Michigan's Unemployment Insurance Agency online. Make sure you apply between 7am to 7pm, Mondays through Saturdays.

  3. By phone - You can just call 1-800-500-0017. However, you should know that there's a strict schedule for applicants, which is based on Social Security numbers.

a. If your Social Security no. ends with 00-15, you should call on Mondays, from 8am to 12:30pm. b. If your Social Security no. ends with 16-33, you should call on Mondays, from 12:30pm to 6:00pm. c. If your Social Security no. ends with 34-48, you should call on Tuesdays, from 8:00am to 12:30pm. d. If your Social Security no. ends with 49-66, you should call on Tuesdays, from 12:30pm to 6:00pm. e. If your Social Security no. ends with 67-81, you should call on Wednesdays, from 8:00am to 12:30pm. f. If your Social Security no. ends with 82-99, you should call on Wednesdays, from 12:30pm to 6:00pm. g. Thursdays and Fridays are open dates. You can call on these dates, whatever the last two digits of your Social Security nos. are.

Before you apply, you'll have to prepare certain requirements such as, your quarterly gross income statement. You will also have to present your employment history in the past 18 months, specifically dates (of your starting and last day). Your bank account information is also needed, as well as your driver's license and your proof of citizenship. You also have to submit your resume with the Michigan Talent Bank and register with the Michigan Works Agency Service Center within 2-3 weeks of applying.

Depending on your income, you may receive any amount from $113 to $362. Although it's an unemployment pay, you will be taxed for this. This check is considered as a source of income and earnings shall be taxed as stated in Federal laws. You will have to wait 2-3 weeks from the date filed before you receive your first check. The duration of this financial aid can last for 14-26 weeks.

If you have any questions, you can always ask the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth by visiting their office or by calling them at 1-866-500-0017.
