Filing for Massachusetts unemployment applications should be filed immediately if you get laid off from work. This make the process easier. If you're interested to file this, the place you should go to is the Massachusetts Office of Labor and Workforce Development, specifically to the Division of Unemployment Assistance.

Basically, the requirements are almost the same with other states. You should have been unemployed without fault. The usual reasons are due to downsizing or the closing of the company. You should be physically be able to work and are continuously looking for work. Also, you should have been earning a certain amount of money in the past 15 months.

  1. Mondays - If your Social Security number ends in 0, 1 or 2

  2. Tuesdays - If your Social Security number ends in 3, 4 or 5

  3. Wednesdays - If your Social Security number ends in 6 or 7

  4. Thursdays - If your Social Security number ends in 8 or 9

  5. Fridays and Saturdays - Any number

  6. Sundays - Closed

If you're to apply through phone, you need to call 1-617-626-6800 or 1-877-626-6800 with area codes, 351, 413, 508, 774 or 978.

Requirements that you need to give them are:

  1. Your Social Security Number

  2. Personal Information (mailing address and telephone numbers)

  3. Employment history in the past 15 months

  4. Reason for losing your job

  5. Dependents' information (if there are any)

  6. Alien Registration and expiration date (if applicable)

After applying, you'll have to wait 2-3 weeks before you can get your first unemployment check. Depending on your income, you can get an amount from $32 to $900. Since this is money earned, it will be subjected to witholding taxes, as stated in the Federal laws. You can receive unemployment benefits for 10-30 weeks.
