Iowa Unemployment Applications

Even Iowa was not spared from the economic crisis that plagued the United States. At the moment, there are dozens of small and medium businesses that closed down. There are some huge corporations that were forced to end their business or downsize just to compensate for the lack of funds. Due to these unfortunate incidents, many Iowa workers were forced to lose their jobs. Until today, there are some who have experienced a great change in their lifestyle. Without a steady supply of income, they are helpless. Thankfully, there are Iowa unemployment applications to cater to their needs, temporarily.

At the moment, the Iowa Workforce Development oversees the unemployment insurance for residents. If you wish to apply to earn some money, while you find a new job, you should inquire at this agency's office. Once you get all the details, you can apply using three ways. The first way is to apply personally. Just look for the Iowa Workforce Development center and present your documents there. Applying online is the second method. You should create an Iowa Workforce Development user account. When you've signed in, you'll be guided through a step by step application process. The other way would be to apply through your employer. This is only possible if your employer agrees to file unemployment for laid off employees.

Of course, you cannot just file for unemployment benefits. You have to comply with the rules. There are certain qualifications that people are required to have before they can apply:

  1. People should have been laid off from work completely or partially without fault. If you find that they have reduced your hours because of financial issues, then you're also eligible for this. If you resign voluntarily and have a good reason, you need to present evidence to justify you you deserve this benefit.

  2. You should be physically able to work. You should also show the agency that you are continuously seeking work. You may actually have to call them weekly to show them your efforts in looking for work.

If you have been fired because of misconduct, sickness or disability, then you're ineligible to get the unemployment benefit. You should have been working 12-18 months prior to your date of claim and also, should have been earning money.

  3. You need to register for work at the Workforce Development Center.

When you see that you're fit to get unemployment benefits, you should prepare your Social Security number, the name of your spouse and dependents (if you have any), personal information (name, address, contact numbers and so on), Standard form 8, proof of residency or legal immigration and also, your gross income statement. It is advisable to file for this a week after you have been laid of from work.

If your application has been approved, you can get any amount from $51-$426. This will be based on your income. Since this is also a form of income, you will be subjected to witholding taxes as stated in the Iowa laws. The length of time you have to wait before you get your first pay check is 2-3 weeks from the date you applied. The duration of the whole thing can last from 9 to 26 weeks.

Just in case you find yourself asking questions, you can always go to the Iowa Workforce Development center and ask. You can also do this by phone by calling 1-866-239-0843.
